Why we joined Frontier Genetics
We joined Frontier Genetics to work with like-minded people to advance genetic gain within our herds and to further improve the fertility, marketability and meat quality of the Brahman breed.
ROGER & KATE LANDSBERG
ABOUT THE OPERATION
Trafalgar Pastoral Company collects data on temperament, fertility and growth, breeding to meet the needs of high-end, grass-fed finishing buyers.

Land and cattle-management techniques are constantly innovated at Trafalgar in the operation of the family-owned self-replacing stud and commercial breeding operation. The Red and Grey pure Brahman stud comprises 360 breeders.

Trafalgar Pastoral Company is run by Roger and Jenny Landsberg, Kate Landsberg and Brad Johnson, and Jayne and Martin Cuddihy (Jayne and Kate are Jenny and Roger’s daughters). Trafalgar Station – south west of Charters Towers in North Queensland – has been owned by the Landsberg family since its purchase in 1913. Roger and Jenny Landsberg took over the management of Trafalgar in 1987 and Kate has been overseeing the stud and commercial breeder operation at Trafalgar for the past 11 years.

Trafalgar sends steers to their second property – Baryugal near Moura – to achieve a 320+kg dressed weight on grass predominantly at 0 – 4 teeth. Over the last two decades, they have prioritised beef production efficiency, cost reduction, and increased productivity and profitability by selecting for temperament, higher fertility rates and earlier turnoff age. Through improved pasture management and controlled mating periods, 90 days for maiden heifers and 120 days for breeders, they are now able to consistently achieve higher branding rates from the stud and commercial breeders regardless of seasonal influences and breed steers to meet the high end grass fed specifications on meatworks grids.
