Why we joined Frontier Genetics
We are always looking for new opportunities to market our bulls. The Frontier Genetics concept was an awesome fit for us, joining forces with a like-minded group of highly successful producers, looking to progress profitability through transparent, predictable and environmentally responsible beef genetics. It allows clients to purchase a large range of animals on a relaxed online platform that are ‘responsibly raised, responsibly grazed’, who have a balance of genotype and phenotype.

ABOUT THE OPERATION
Rockley Brahmans cater to nationwide stud cattle breeders and commercial beef cattle producers seeking elite bulls and females with sound fertility, temperament, and efficiency.

Owned and managed by Ashley and Kate Kirk, Rockley is located in the Callide Dawson region near Moura, encompassing Brigalow scrub country and 1,000 hectares of Leucaena. Their thriving Rockley breeding herd includes around 100 stud females and 150 IVF recipients. They also trade cattle and operate a commercial cross-breeding program using red Brahman females.

Polled genetics and meticulous data collection are vital to their breeding program, enabling them to balance genotypic and phenotypic information for stud selection. They record extensive data for each animal, including birth weight, flight time, 200-, 400-, and 600-day weights, rib and rump fat measurements, and EMA. Scrotal measurements at 400 days assess puberty age, while evaluations of 600-day semen morphology and days-to-calving provide insights into conception speed and post-weaning cow weight. Genomics testing and parent verification are conducted for all herd members, with tissue sampling during birth weight recording for each calf. In order to ensure maximum fertility, the Rockley yearlings, heifers and cows are naturally bred for a period of 100 days, starting from October 1st and ending on January 1st, thus ensuring that only fertile animals are retained. They conduct three annual IVF rounds to multiply their superior genetics using approximately ten donor cows. Alongside the Frontier Genetics Sale, they offer bulls for sale at the Rockhampton Brahman Week and Big Country Sales.
