Why we joined Frontier Genetics
When I was approached about the Frontier Genetics concept it really struck a chord, it fit in with everything that we were doing with our bull breeding program and without doubt represented exactly what the industry is starting to look for. I believe this concept will give breeders not only the opportunity to source new genetics to increase profits in their herds but also be a part of a movement that will not only take the Brahman breed forward but also change the way the broader industry looks at selecting genetics.
ABOUT THE OPERATION
Everingham Pastoral Co earns positive commercial-client feedback and a high percentage of repeat customers. Their cattle are commended for their temperament, weight-for-age, and overall quality, the result of years of selective breeding.
Everingham Pastoral Co is a family-owned breeding and fattening operation in northern and central western Queensland. The Everingham family – Roland (Snr) and Sally plus their two sons Roland (Jnr) and Jacob – manage operations. Oak Park Station serves as their breeding base, housing 5,000 breeding-age females. They conduct two annual rounds of weaning for their commercial herd. Weaners undergo extensive education before being sent to fattening properties in the Central West Winton District. Heifers are joined as two-year-olds and return to Oak Park for calving after a positive pregnancy test following a three-month join. Steers are fattened to 400-450kg and sold to make room for the next year’s steers.
In 2015, Roland Jnr established the Oak Park Brahman stud, allowing them to intensify selection pressure on breeding stud females. Since 2020, their stud has submitted data to BREEDPLAN, enabling them to accurately select new genetics that align with their breeding criteria: early maturity, high fertility, weight gains, carcass performance and more. BREEDPLAN analyses 200, 400, and 600-day weights, scrotal size, and days to calving, crucial for profitability. Everingham bulls thrive on limited nutrition for 8-9 months of the year, catering to producers seeking truly northern-adapted genetics.
